Eight seconds. That's the short time span your resume has to catch the attention of a potential employer. Fifteen seconds max. Even speed dating gives you at least five minutes with each potential date!
3. Indicate the position youre seeking: Many individuals will call this the resume objective. When you clearly state your objective, the reader will quickly determine if you can add value to their school district. In other words, do they have an opening for the position you are wishing to secure. If you dont have an objective, they will need to dig through your resume and try to find out what you want to do. The odds of them taking the time to do this are slim. Be honest in your objective; do not hinder yourself with the fear of not getting the job.
Its shocking to me that the majority of job hunters are still using an objective. First, let me say STOP THAT! Next, let me tell you why: An objective is all about what you want. Truthfully, hiring managers couldnt care less. Your objective statement means absolutely NOTHING to them. It does not make you stand out, it does not position you as a leader, and frankly, instead of getting you somewhere, firmly plants you three steps back. However, a personal branding statement, followed by a career summary that is strategically formulated around your unique promise of value, is the golden ticket. If that was Greek to youand you have no idea what Im talking abouthold on, its about to get better.
